Adult and Children Flu Clinics


We have some catch-up adult flu clinics at the surgery during November - please call the Surgery to book. Children's flu clinics are taking place on Mondays 13th and 20th November and 4th and 12th December - again, please call the surgery to book. Children in Reception to Year 4 inclusive should have their flu vaccination at school - please contact the school nursing service on 01727 734026 to book.

Appointments

Appointments are available between:

8.30 a.m. to 12 noon and 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. Monday to Friday, but excluding Bank Holidays.

In addition, we provide some late evening telephone appointments, which are once per week on a rotating basis (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

We also provide Saturday morning appointments, which are usually the first Saturday of the month.

Details of our evening and Saturday morning appointments are available at Reception and through Online Access as well (Saturday). To find out more about Online Access, please ask at Reception.

Duration of Appointments

Please note that doctor and nurse face to face appointments are for 10 minutes duration only and, ideally for one problem to be discussed. The doctor or nurse may ask you if you have more than one problem to discuss at the start of your appointment and you may be asked to book another appointment to discuss additional problems. Should you feel you may need longer than this, please ask for a double appointment at the time of booking, but do note that double appointments may not be available.

Additionally, telephone appointments are for 5 minutes duration only.

If patients can bear this in mind during their face to face/telephone appointment this will help the doctor or nurse to keep to time. Whilst every effort is made by the doctor/nurse to do so there are times when emergencies or unexpected patient problems will lead to unavoidable delays.

How to make an appointment

Appointments can be made by telephoning or calling into the surgery or by using our online appointment booking service (you will need to register for this service first and provide photographic ID), all from 8:00 a.m.

Please note that only doctor appointments can be booked online. This is because different nurses treat different illnesses/conditions and we wish to avoid patients booking into an appointment with a nurse who is unable to treat your condition.

When booking an appointment for the Nursing team our reception team are obliged to ask the nature of the appointment. This is purely because different nurse appointments require different times. Please tell the receptionist exactly what you need so they can ensure the correct time allotment. All our staff are covered by the same confidentiality rules and can be spoken to in total confidence.

How we release our Appointments

We release our routine appointments at 8:00 a.m. daily. Routine appointments are currently available:

  • On the day
  • The next working day
  • One week ahead
  • Two weeks ahead

If you wish to see a particular doctor you therefore need to be aware of their normal working days.

HOWEVER, AT PEAK TIMES (E.G. CHRISTMAS, EASTER) THERE WILL BE LESS PRE -BOOKABLE APPOINTMENTS TO HELP US COPE WITH THE INCREASE IN DEMAND AT THESE TIMES.

Appointments are also available Monday to Friday with the Duty doctor for those patients needing to be seen urgently on the day i.e. for urgent medical reasons. We will ask you for a brief reason for the need to see the duty doctor when booking an appointment with him/her, and a contact number in case s/he needs to contact you beforehand.

We also have a specialist nurse practitioner, Rachel Bell, who has been trained to treat certain illnesses and appointments are available with her on most weekdays.

Duty Doctor appointments

Our Duty Doctor treats patients with an urgent problem that must be seen on the day. Please inform reception when making an appointment if you feel that your problem is urgent and that you must be seen that day. Please also provide at least one telephone number that the Duty Doctor can contact you on, in case he or she wishes to discuss your problem and potentially see you earlier in the day.

Duty Doctor appointments are not 10 minute routine appointments; they are only for dealing with urgent problems that must be treated on the day. When seeing the Duty Doctor, you will be provided with a time to arrive in the surgery; please sit and wait for the Duty Doctor to see you. Please also be prepared to wait to see the Duty Doctor, because the Duty Doctor may have to deal with an emergency before seeing you.

If your problem is not urgent and does not need to be treated on the day, the Duty Doctor will ask you to book a routine appointment and may not see you.
